Deconstructing Liberal Myths about Asian America

A creative workshop centered around deconstructing liberal myths of the Asian American experience.

Much discourse has celebrated Asian American representation in media, but Asian American art has the potential to be so much more. We believe there are dangers in merely inserting Asian bodies into existing modes of storytelling or becoming satisfied when select aspects of Asian American culture are depicted in art.

This event is a reflection of liberal myths that we each have experienced (model minority myth, American dream, melting pot etc.) in conversation with a series of tweets by award-winning Vietnamese American author Viet Thanh Nguyen. (https://twitter.com/viet_t_nguyen/status/1114728326420213760)
