Arts and Politics
Description:
Much discourse has celebrated Asian American representation in media, but we think that Asian American art has the potential to be so much more. We believe there are dangers in merely inserting Asian bodies into existing modes of storytelling or becoming satisfied when select aspects of Asian American culture are depicted in art. Inspired by the frameworks of the Decolonization committee, TAPAS Arts & Politics committee hopes to facilitate reflection on the role art can have in decolonization and liberation. Our projects might include making a zine and providing space where people can make art and reflect together.
Who should join the committee?
No need to consider yourself an artist to join this committee! This is a space in which to float unexpected ideas. If you find our ideas about art interesting, please join up.
Current Committee Members
Liana Chow, Jeanna Shaw, Justin Hu, Thuan Tran, Serina Hu
