Due to the model minority myth, we often don't hear about the immigration issues within the Asian American community. In fact, 1 in 7 Asian immigrants are undocumented, and refugees are being targeted for deportation. At this panel, we sought to complicate the dichotomy of good-bad immigrants and what it means to deserve citizenship, residency, and mobility, particularly in context of deportations of Southeast Asians who immigrated as refugees fleeing war violence. The panel featured speakers with experience and backgrounds in public defense, community organizing, legal counsel, and advocacy. The event sought to educate and inform, offer avenues for getting more involved, and spur discussion among undergraduates about this timely and pressing social issue.
