Anti-Deportations

Description:

This committee strives to support the work of local advocates to combat deportations of Southeast Asian Americans, which we see as one of the most urgent issues facing Asian Americans at this moment. Delving into this work helps us learn about the combined effects of so many issues, including U.S. imperialism in Southeast Asia, criminalization legislation made to target marginalized populations, and the faulty narrative of the “good” versus “bad” immigrant. The prevailing discourse around deportations and undocumented immigrants tends to be de-centered from Asian American and Asian immigrants. Doing anti-deportation work is just one example of many ways we can fight against shared systems of oppression.

Who should join the committee?

Anyone can join with any level of commitment! This committee is especially a good fit if you’re interested in learning about an important issue from local organizers and participating in their campaigns, whether by showing up to phone banks or helping with graphic design or event planning.
